Sierra de Cádiz hosts international hang gliding event
The Sierra de Cádiz will host the XLI International Sierra de Cádiz Hang Gliding Open from April 2 to 5, 2026, during the Easter period.
The competition takes place between El Bosque and Algodonales, two well-known locations for free flight due to their favorable weather and terrain conditions.
A competition with international ranking points
The event is part of the Spanish national calendar and counts toward the Andalusian Championship. It is also included in the FAI CIVL calendar, allowing pilots to earn points for the FAI WPRS.
This combination attracts both national and international pilots.
Categories and daily schedule
Pilots compete in three categories:
- Class 1 (flex wings)
- Class 5 (rigid wings)
- Sport Class
Each day includes weather briefings, flights, GPS tracking and results publication in the evening.
Natural flying conditions
The competition area combines mountains and open landscapes, offering varied routes depending on wind direction. Takeoff sites include Sierra de Líjar and other elevated points reaching over 1,000 meters.
